Laser treatment of retinal diseases
retinal cataract, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tear or detachment etc.
The advanced ophthalmic laser YAG-SLT (Ellex) and VISULAS YAG III Combi (ZEISS) is used to treat the following conditions of the eye:
- secondary cataract
- glaucoma
- retinal diseases: retinal tears, diabetic retinopathy, central retinal vein occlusion and branch retinal vein occlusion, other retinal diseases causing the build-up of fluid in the centre of the retina and/or growth of new blood vessels
Glaucoma is treated with Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty, which improves fluid drainage and lowers the eye pressure by affecting the tissues of the eye with a short-wavelenght laser. The unique feature of this procedure is that the new-generation YAG-SLT laser only affects a particular part of the eye, the so-called trabecular meshwork, which lies between the iris and the cornea. Extremely short high-intensity light pulses prevent the cells from heating up, hence, sparing surrounding eye tissues.
The short procedure which only takes up to 15 minutes is performed under anaesthesia for your own comfort. You can go home immediately after the treatment.
Laser treatment that is started in good time will help to retain your current eyesight and avoid further deterioration.
